Our Artist Of The Week is CATBEAR!
London-based duo CATBEAR are Zoe (she/her) and Sarah (she/her), two best buds who like hanging out making nostalgic electronic alt pop music, wishing they were living in the future where everyone rides a fluorescent hoverboard and neon spooky donkeys are still cool. Always fiercely independent, CATBEAR began life in the 2010s as indie post-punk girl trio Cat Bear Trio, sharing the stages with Nova Twins, Skinny Girl Diet and The Tuts as they blazed a trail through the London live scene.
Unapologetically female and queer, they are proud to represent the 2% of female producers that are currently working in music and are committed to showcasing and championing women in all areas of the music industry. Their touring party is all-female/non-binary, something which is very important to them. They are also committed to giving opportunities to collaborate and work with people who are in minority groups wherever possible.

Following the release of their debut album in 2021 (which has now been streamed over 650,000 times worldwide), CATBEAR are blasting into the new year with a brand-new single. Released during their upcoming UK support tour for indie legends The Subways, ‘I Choose Love’ is an ethereal dream-pop sapphic anthem celebrating queer love and fighting to live as your true self – bringing a feel-good New Year message for all. The track mixes nostalgic and warm analogue synths with dreamy guitars, assured female vocals and a pulsating bassline. Of their most personal and honest lyrics yet, Zoe says: “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lost in the challenges of being an individual in today’s world – even just walking out of your door can feel like you need to put your armour on to prepare for judgement, whether at work, on the bus or at the supermarket.
‘I Choose Love’ is your armour for a message of defiance, of confidence to be yourself and a reminder to treat everyone as equals.”
