Our Artist Of The Week is Firesites
Firesites incorporate a dynamic blend of upbeat electronic rock and laid-back indie synth-pop, landing somewhere between the realms of Radiohead and Homeshake. ‘Oceanpotion’, their new single, certainly takes influence from the latter, accomplishing a soothing listening experience with a recipe of soft falsetto vocals, lo-fi guitars, wavy synth lines and airy saxophones. Saturated with chorus and delay effects, the production techniques reinforce the track’s alluring, spacious and dreamy feel.

The sax is provided by one of Newcastle’s beloved saxophonists, Sam Fox (No Fox), and it elevates the track with rich harmonies and countermelodies to the synth and vocal parts. The piece builds to a climax with a solo from Fox during the outro. Tom Waterworth, the band’s front man and producer, said, “The whole thing is supposed to be quite sensual, but trippy and abstract at the same time.”
