Artist of the week

AOTW – PUMAROSA chosen by Live Nation
This week’s Artist of The Week is London band PUMAROSA, chosen by Live Nation.
Their track Priestess is a rousing 7 1/2 minute affair that builds throughout, touching on a number of different musical genres and climaxing with solos from saxophone and guitar. Instrumentation in the verses is stripped back allowing the vocal space to glide over the top.
The great thing about this song is each time you think you have a handle on what’s coming next you are greeted with a pleasant surprise. Whether it’s the Chemical Brothers style dance rhythms, etherial guitar sounds or the entry of the tenor sax solo, ‘Priestess’ takes many twists and turns, culminating in what feels like an improvised live track.

Richer Unsigned AOTW – Seramic, by Charmfactory
Artist of The Week are Seramic, chosen by Jolyon at Charmfactory PR. Seramic’s track ‘People Say’ is drenched with soul, showing similarities to early Curtis Mayfield, juxtaposed with a more modern electronic production twist. Definitely worth a listen!
Jolyon said:
“Something that really caught my eye over the festive period, was Seramic. A somewhat mysterious outfit/person. They dropped their debut offering ‘People Say’ just before 2015 closed for business, allowing just enough time for a few people to tout them as ones to watch for 2016. Luscious choral arrangements are placed alongside murky electronic instrumentals, with a gloriously soulful vocal guiding the song throughout, ‘People Say’ has more than enough about it to warrant lofty expectations for them this year. If you wanted some comparisons, I suppose you could say it’s a heady amalgamation of D’Angelo-esque RnB, Leon Bridges-tinged blues, with a few Ben Khan-ish electronics thrown in for good measure. Certainly a very exciting prospect.”

AOTW by Time Out – Broken Witt Rebels
This week’s Artist of The Week feature has been selected by Time Out’s Ray Jones. Time Out’s ‘Rising Stars’ event was setup with the aim of giving new artists exposure. It went from strength to strength in 2015, culminating in sold out shows at London’s Jazz Cafe. Check out their site for all the latest news here.
Ray’s band of the moment are Birmingham 4 piece Broken Witt Rebels. Their alternative Rock/Blues sound touches upon Kings of Leon and Cage The Elephant, to name a few. Ray said:
‘They are red hot live and have played twice for us now at Rising Stars including our Best of show in December. I tip these guys for the big-time, and whilst they are still playing small venues urge all to see them.’

AOTW by Shell Zenner
Self professed new music ‘nut’ and Amazing Radio presenter Shell Zenner (@shellzenner) has been kind enough to curate this week’s Artist of The Week slot. She has chosen Halifax band The Orielles who describe their music as surf/pop/garage.
Shell said:
‘Halifax band The Orielles blew me away the first time I saw them live, so accomplished for a band who’s collective age is around 40!
Their dreamy brand of surf pop is as fuzzy as it is psychadelic and has captured the attention of many a music fan in the north of England, including A Certain Ratio’s Jez Kerr who has been recorded and produced them of late.’
