Artist Of The Week: Katherine Aly
Our next Artist Of The Week is Katherine Aly! Aly is a avant-pop singer/songwriter based in Edinburgh. A blend of London Grammar, Björk and Florence and the Machine references, her genre-fluid, melody-driven tracks are an ethereal experimentation with lyrical elements and dreamy ambience; a narrative of subjectivity in singular and collective contexts.
Listen to her latest single, “Glow & Ignite” here:
About the track the artist says “Glow & Ignite might sound like a happy song but believe me when I tell you it’s not – it’s actually coming from a very dark place. Writing this upbeat song really helped me through struggle.”
Kathrine has a fantastic, soulful voice and controls it with full confidence. You can also hear something beautifully traditional in her melody choices, which might be down to being originally from Greece.
Watch to Aly’s stunning acoustic version of “butterflies” here:
If you’re interested in discovering a new, interesting artist in the same boat as Florence and the Machine and Imogen Heap, you are in for a treat with Katherine Aly.
