Richer Unsigned Session – June
Summer is officially here, and the only things hotter than this heatwave we’re in the grip of are the performances that took place last month in Cambridge Audio’s Melomania space, as Cara Hammond and The Woods dropped by to entertain us with some stellar music!
Cara Hammond is an indie pop singer-songwriter originally from North Wales now based in London. She’s been writing songs since she was 11 and performing them since she was 14, graduating from the Leeds College of Music with a first in 2017. Her music is soulful-pop, drawing influence from some of her favorite artists like Amy Winehouse, Lianne La Havas, and Paolo Nutini but making it truly her own. Her deep and powerful voice bewitched us as she performed her set. When we asked her if she thought the platform Unsigned provides to up-and-coming artists was something she thought valuable, it was met with a resounding “YES!”. Cara has a brand new music video out for “Good Times” which you can check out here as well, and she let us know she’s got more new music out this year, so keep your ears open!
Up next we had The Woods grace the Melomania stage, with a table (and floor) full of electronic gear he uses to creates his ‘one man band’ performances. The brainchild of Glasgow-born producer, vocalist & multi-instrumental live-loop artist Johnny McFadzean, The Woods crafts mesmerising and textural folktronica, with elements of RnB and pop deftly woven in (pardon the pun, we’re just big fans of his latest EP Night Silk Threads). His music has been described as “a cross between Jeff Buckley and James Blake”, which we feel is pretty spot on, however as you can see in the above video, McFadzean easily stands out from the pack on his own musical merits. He’s also cooking up some new music too, so stay tuned for that as well.
We want to thank all the music fans and industry insiders that swung through to support independent music, and of course a huge ‘thank you’ to Cara and Johnny for sharing their immense talents with us!
